Microsoft AI unites the abilities of computers with human acumen to mould industries and enhance performance and safety. From agriculture to healthcare and banking to retail, Microsoft is changing the industries with extraordinary technology intervention using Azure AI.
Government of India, along with Microsoft, has begun empowering small-holder farmers in India to increase income through higher crop yield and greater price control using AI sensors. Microsoft, being the technological partner, is working with farmers, state governments, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to create an ecosystem for AI into farming. Working with the engineering conglomerate Escorts for its cloud and AI technology, Microsoft is enabling precision agriculture capabilities and thus, helping farmers to make informed decisions.
The initiative will leverage the AI-Sowing App powered by Cortana Intelligence Suite including machine learning and Power BI. The app sends sowing advisories to participating farmers on the optimal date to sow. The farmers do not need to install any sensors in their fields or incur any capital expenditure, and just require phones which can receive text messages.
In June 2019, Microsoft launched AI Digital Labs in collaboration with 10 higher educational institutions to train 1.5 lakh students in India. The institutions include BITS Pilani, BML Munjal University, ISB, Kalpataru Institute of Technology, KL University, Periyar University, Karunya University, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, SVKM (NMIMS) and Trident Academy of Technology. Microsoft will support the institutions with infrastructure, curriculum and content, access to cloud and AI services as well as developer support for three years.
Microsoft launched MINE, a part of Microsoft AI network for healthcare, in collaboration with L V Prasad Eye Institute in 2016. MINE focuses on diverse datasets of patients across geographies to come up with machine learning predictive models for vision impairment and eye diseases.
